2025 World Firefighter Challenge Championship October 20-25, 2025
Get ready because an exciting, action-packed sporting event featuring real life heroes is happening next week in Farmers Branch, Texas on the Brookhaven campus of Dallas College. 388 firefighters representing more than 20 countries will converge on Farmers Branch to compete in the 2025 XXXIV World Firefighter Challenge Championship event. The public, along with aspiring firefighters, are invited to attend this free, family friendly event to cheer on our amazing heroes in the SERVPRO® FCL: Firefighter Challenge League. Sponsored by Dallas College, City of Farmers Branch, and the Dallas Sports Commission, the public will have a front row seat to witness the physical talents of these public safety professionals in action on the LION® Arena of the Brave challenge course.
“We’re thrilled to welcome the Firefighter Challenge World Championship to our region,” said Andrew Dockrill, Vice President of the Dallas Sports Commission. “Having the opportunity to host firefighters from around the globe as they compete at the highest level is a true honor.” Firefighters from Texas competing are representing the Arlington, Coppell, Farmers Branch, Fort Worth, Grapevine, Irving, Lake Worth, Missouri City, Rowlett, and Tyler Fire Departments!
“Dallas College is excited to host the Firefighter Challenge World Championship as part of our continued commitment to advancing health and public safety careers and industry,” said Dr. Brad Williams, vice chancellor at Dallas College. "This event includes various competitions where firefighters showcase their physical and mental readiness through a series of challenging tasks that simulate real-life firefighting scenarios. This is a unique opportunity for the public and our students to engage with those who serve and protect at the highest level."
Deemed by ESPN as “the toughest two minutes in sports”, the TFT® Firefighter Challenge Championship Series is designed to highlight the strength and readiness of the fire service, while inspiring the next generation of firefighters. “Our World Challenge event features some of the top firefighters in our sport from around the world”, says Russell A. Jackson, Chief Executive Officer of the First Responder Institute. Firefighters run the course tackling what are known as the Five Essential Functions™ wearing full turnout gear and a self-contained breathing apparatus. Participants have three main categories to compete in: individual, tandem (2-person), and relay (3-5 person). Competitions simulate the physical demands of real-life firefighting by climbing the five-story tower, hoisting, chopping, dragging hoses, and rescuing a life-sized, 165-pound “victim” as they race against themselves, their opponents, and the clock.
The Firefighter Challenge is a program of the First Responder Institute, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and is supported by a wide array of stakeholders that support these athletes and public servants.
