Dallas Sports Commission
Executive Update, March 2017
The NCAA Women's Final Four capped off March for the Dallas Sports Commission as sellout crowds of more than 19,200 packed the American Airlines Center to see South Carolina win its first National Championship. Fans also enjoyed Tourney Town, the Women's Final Four Fan Fest that offered interactive games, youth clinics, autograph sessions and entertainment. The Women's Final Four also made an impact in the community with the Read to the Final Four program, Beyond the Baseline events, Recycle to the Final Four bottle cap collection and the donation of a Dream Court at Arcadia Park in Dallas.
March also featured the 59th Annual Golden Chick Dallas Regional Spelling Bee presented by the Dallas Sports Commission. The Bee, televised by WFAA-TV, was won by 10-year-old Sohum Sukhatankar, a fifth grader from Allen, who correctly spelled "decamerous" to capture the crown and move on to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington D.C. in May.
