Executive Update, May 2017

The Dallas Sports Commission held their final Women's Final Four Local Organizing Committee wrap-up meetings on May 15-16 with the NCAA to review the Women's Final Four post-event report.  While in Dallas, the NCAA visited SMU's Moody Coliseum for a site visit for the 2020 NCAA Women's Regionals.  The DSC also hosted on May 15 a Volunteer Appreciation Night at The Rustic for the local volunteers that assisted at the Women's Final Four.  Over 200 attendees enjoyed music, food and games as a thank you from the Dallas LOC.

The DSC and VisitDallas hosted clients and partners at the AT&T Byron Nelson golf tournament May 18-21.  Next year's tournament will move to Trinity Forest Golf Club in Dallas and you check out the AT&T Byron Nelson Virtual Venue to experience what the course will look like for 2018!

From May 1-5, the National PAL (Police Athletic/Activities League) Conference was held at the Crowne Plaza Dallas Near Galleria.  The annual event was attended by chapters from all over the United States and included programs on mentor training, curriculum, grant writing and fundraising, as well as regional meetings.

Other DSC events in May included:

  • Two cheerleading events for Varsity Spirit Corporation
  • Staff attended the Big 12 Conference Spring Meetings in Arizona
  • Continuing work on the Korean American National Sports Festival and CONCACAF Gold Cup soccer
