DSC Hosts the 59th Annual Golden Chick Dallas Regional Spelling Bee
The 59th Annual Golden Chick Dallas Regional Spelling Bee presented by the Dallas Sports Commission will be held Saturday, March 4th at WFAA Studios, 606 Young Street, Dallas, Texas 75202. The program tapes at 1:00 p.m. and will be broadcast on WFAA-TV, Channel 8 the same day on Saturday, March 4 from 4:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. David Schechter, WFAA-TV Senior Reporter, will emcee the program.

Twenty-two contestants from 21 counties will compete. (Two contestants represent Dallas County – one each from the Dallas County private and public school competitions.) These contestants represent the best of approximately 100,000 students from over 700 schools who competed in school bees throughout North and East Texas. Four contestants from the 2016 Dallas Regional Bee have advanced to participate in the 2017 Regional Bee.
To qualify for the Regional Spelling Bee, contestants must be in grades fourth through eighth and win their individual school bee and local county bee. More information on The Golden Chick Dallas Regional Spelling Bee can be found at www.dallasspellingbee.com.

The regional champion will win an all-expense paid trip to Washington D.C. where he or she will represent the North and East Texas region at the Scripps National Spelling Bee Week in Washington D.C. Timeline of The Golden Chick Dallas Regional Spelling Bee presented by the Dallas Sports Commission for Saturday, March 4 is as follows:
11:00 a.m. Bee contestants and their parents arrive for registration in lobby of TXCN building
11:30 a.m. Orientation and Briefing in lobby of TXCN building
11:50 a.m. Contestants and parents walk over to WFAA studio
12:00 p.m. Contestants do a practice round
1:00 p.m. Bee broadcast taping begins
2:00 p.m. Broadcast concludes, winner is available for interviews
4:00 p.m. Bee airs on WFAA
The Dallas Sports Commission hosts the 59th Annual Golden Chick Dallas Regional Spelling Bee for the first time after The Dallas Morning News managed the bee for the past 58 years. This year's bee sponsors include Golden Chick, AT&T, CareNow, Crown Trophy Plano, Credit Union of Texas, LegoLand Discovery Center of DFW, Norma's Café, Pollo Tropical, SeaLife Grapevine, Southwest Airlines and WFAA-TV.
