Texas Southern and Southern Face-Off at the State Fair Showdown

The State Fair Showdown, an electrifying gridiron match between the Texas Southern University Tigers and the Southern University Jaguars, returns to the Cotton Bowl Stadium in Dallas on Saturday, Oct. 19.

Kick off for the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) rivalry football game between the Houston, Texas and Baton Rouge, Louisiana teams is at 2 p.m. The game will feature a thrilling halftime show from two award-winning and highly acclaimed marching bands – Texas Southern's Ocean of Soul and Southern University's Human Jukebox.

The State Fair Showdown between the two HBCUs is more than a football game. It's a family affair for all ages happening against the background of the State Fair of Texas. The Showdown celebrates the athletic, academic and pioneering achievements of the HBCUs' students, graduates and faculty.

Another highlight will be a free State Fair Showdown College Fair powered by Lone Star Sports and Cedar Valley College on Thursday, Oct. 17. The fair will be held in the college's gymnasium at 3030 N Dallas Ave., Lancaster, Texas.

General admission to the Oct. 19 Showdown at the Cotton Bowl Stadium will include a highly anticipated "Fifth Quarter'' after the football game – a must-see Battle of the Bands between the Human Jukebox and the Ocean of Soul. The $28 game ticket also will include access to the State Fair of Texas.
